For students wishing to become qualified Commercial Pilots, Pacific Flying School conducts courses which can be completed within 12 – 18 months. The bulk of theory training is conducted by qualified instructors as classroom, tutorial and computer based sessions.
Familiarization flight training is carried out using Visual Training Systems (VTS). This facilitates flight checks, procedures and general handling using simulators that represent the cockpit of aircraft.
This course will provide the student with the coveted CPL/MECIR Licence and a pass in Basic Gas Turbine Theory, all of which are essential for anybody aspiring to work for the airlines.
The course commences several times a year and includes an extensive theory course and a minimum of 150 hours of flying in both single and twin engine aircraft. At the successful completion of the course, the candidate will hold an ICAO recognized Fijian Commercial Pilots Licence with a Command Instrument Rating and a Multi-Engine aircraft endorsement. Fijian licenses and other qualifications are highly recognized worldwide and particularly by member countries of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Duration: 18 months
Theoretical Training: At Pacific Flying School, we offer combination of Computer Based Training and lectures. We are able to provide students with instruction for the CPL, Instrument Rating and Basic Gas Turbine exams of Australia (CASA). The short version one year course allows for a minimum of 150 flying hours to Multi-Engine Command Instrument Rating; Basic Gas Turbine theory and Fiji Commercial Pilots Licence. A maximum of 20 hours instrument training will be undertaken in our synthetic flight trainer.
The CPL Course includes the BAK, FRTO and Air Law subjects, the student need not sit the other PPL courses, along with more advanced subjects as follows:
- Aerodynamics
- Aircraft General Knowledge
- Performance Flight Planning
- Meteorology
- Navigation
- Human Factors
- Instrument Rating Theory (IREX)

Each of the subjects above is examined separately at the CAAFI exam room using the Australian Cyber exam system every Friday. If a candidate fails, he/she may re-sit after Theory Instructor is satisfied that sufficient revision study has been undertaken.
Flying Training: A candidate must have a minimum of 150 hours flight time (150 hrs Syllabus) or 200 hours flight time (200hrs Syllabus) prior to being recommended for a flight test with CAAFI. Licenses are issued by CAAFI. If the candidate has not reached the required standard for testing then additional flying may be required. Failure at any stage of the course will result in the course taking a little longer than the above estimate.Every effort is to minimize additional cost.
Pacific Flying School has a dedicated fleet of four Cessna 172 aircraft for single engine, Piper Seneca and an Islander for multi engine flying training.
